Postdoctoral Fellow
Laboratory of Bacteriology
Bacterial Physiology and Metabolism Unit
A postdoctoral fellowship position is available in the Bacterial Physiology and Metabolism Unit of the Laboratory of Bacteriology in the Division of Intramural Research, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, located at Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) in Hamilton, MT. Our section studies nutrient transport in the pathogenic spirochetes Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia hermsii and its impact during the enzootic cycle. We utilize bacterial mutagenesis to characterize transporters and other proteins in nutrient acquisition pathways using in vitro cultivation models and the mouse/tick model of infection. We also utilize metabolomics, proteomics, and RNAseq to understand how nutrient availability influences bacterial responses and protein expression to evaluate enzymatic function and structure. More information on our research can be found at: https://www.niaid.nih.gov/research/ashley-groshong-phd.
RML has state-of-the-art facilities and skilled core staff specializing in metabolomics, proteomics, spatial transcriptomics, flow cytometry, and multiple biological imaging modalities including intravital imaging and an internationally recognized electron microscopy core. These core facilities provide training, guidance, and support for ongoing projects across RML.
