The Director of Laboratories with the Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Laboratories (BOL) offers an exciting chance to guide high-impact scientific work that protects communities across the Commonwealth. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position directs laboratory operations, staff, programs, and policies for the Department of Health's Bureau of Laboratories. It involves major leadership decisions, oversight of scientific functions, and coordination with partners across the Commonwealth. As a Director of Laboratories, you will perform the following duties:
Operational Oversight: Manage laboratory safety, testing programs, quality assurance, fiscal responsibilities, and personnel activities
Strategic Leadership: Provide direction that guides laboratory goals, policies, and future planning
Program Coordination: Work with divisions, bureau leaders, and external partners to ensure efficient laboratory operations
Staff Supervision: Oversee employees, provide strategic direction, communicate assignments and expectations, and offer feedback
Interagency Collaboration: Coordinate with public health bureaus, state laboratories, and national partners to solve problems and improve services
Emergency Support: Assist with public health emergency response assignments when needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, during inclement weather or office closures. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Lionville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:
You must meet the qualifications under the provisions of the federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) for Laboratory Director (§493.1443) at the time of hire.
You must meet the Qualifications of Director under 28 Pa. Code §5.21.88 and the Pennsylvania Clinical Laboratory Act at the time of hire.
