Company Profile

eMetagen Corporation

Company Overview

eMetagen is a pharmaceutical discovery company with a proprietary technology platform for producing small molecule natural products from uncultivated soil microorganisms. The company discovers new antibiotics for development with partners and licensees, and also markets its Gene and Pathway BanksTM as tools for drug discovery. eMetagen’s current focus is developing products from antibiotic-producing hit clones with activities against multiply drug-resistant, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a pathogen responsible for widespread community and in-hospital infections.

Company History

Founded in 2002, eMetagen completed a Phase I Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant project funded by the National Institutes of Health’s Biodefense program in 2004-2006. Via this work, the company discovered and confirmed antibiotic activities of clones active against various bacterial target organisms. Promising clones show activities against clinical isolates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). eMetagen earned an NIH Phase I SBIR grant in 2007 to characterize and develop antibiotic products active against MRSA.
