Description

The incumbent serves as a Research Microbiologist at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center (NCWMAC) in Orono, Maine. This position will work independently and collaboratively with scientists assigned to the project plan "Improving North American Atlantic Salmon Aquaculture Production". The incumbent conducts research, develops and transfers technology, and publishes peer reviewed journal articles focused on developing model systems for investigating and defining mechanisms of pathogenicity of bacterial pathogens, assessing efficacy and risk of current and novel microbial disease treatment methods, and evaluating microbial community interactions in relation to cold-water marine aquaculture fish species including Atlantic salmon. The goal of the research is to improve U.S. cold-water marine aquaculture production in response to stakeholder needs.
